- Take M42 North.
- At Junction 9 take A446 (or continue on M6 Toll, which will save you 5 minutes and cost £5)
- At Basset Pole Roundabout take A38 (signpost Lichfield, Burton on Trent, Derby)
- At next big Rdbt (near Lichfield) continue on A38 (Burton & Derby)
- Continue on A38 for 20 miles when it becomes Derby Ring Road.
- Take a left on to slip-road (A6 Matlock).
- *Follow A6 north for 3miles. At Traffic Lights turn left on to B5023 (Wirksworth).
- Follow this country road for about 10 miles into Wirksworth.
- After mini -roundabout drive up the hill into the centre of town. Look out for Stones - builders' merchant on your right. Turn right into St Mary's Gate 50m beyond Stones - a narrow lane with a Baker's shop on the corner. **Go straight ahead into China House Yard, to the left of the large house in front of you. - Take MI North.
- At Junction 24 Take A50 (signpost Uttoxeter, Stoke)
- After 5 miles take sliproad A5111 Derby then follow signs for A6 Matlock (Keep going, there are a lot of twists and turns and roundabouts) Eventually you come on to the A38 which is the northern Derby Ring Road. Continue following signs for A6 Matlock until you get on to A6 proper. Then proceed as from * above.
- There are a variety of routes to Wirksworth from the North, North
East and North West, with no obvious preferred option. Please use
your map or SatNav to guide you. All routes will bring you to the
centre of Wirksworth
by the Market Place (sloping open space, used for parking except
on Tuesday). Proceed downhill over the Zebra crossing. Turn left
into St Mary’s Gate 50m beyond the crossing – a narrow lane with
a Baker’s shop on the corner. Proceed as from ** above.
- Space is limited to two cars. Please let us know, when booking, how many parking spaces you will need.
- Regular service to Derby from St Pancras, Birmingham etc. There is an hourly train service leaving Derby at 12.50, 13.50 to Cromford, Matlock Bath and Matlock. Cromford station is the nearest to Wirksworth but is half a mile from Cromford, bus routes and taxis. It is easier to go to Matlock Bath and catch the bus to Wirksworth (half-hourly). - The 6.1 leaves Derby Bus Station every hour at xx.50 taking about an hour. There is an hourly service from Bakewell at xx.30 and half-hourly from Matlock at xx.55 and xx.30. It is possible to get a Transpeak bus from Manchester or Nottingham to Cromford.
